HBLN is an informal association of families in the National Capital
Region interested in alternatives to the school system. Network members
represent a wide range of approaches to learning, and HBLN does not
endorse any
specific philosophy of education except to promote respect for
diversity and individual choice.
HBLN has no membership fees, official meetings, or other formal
structure.
The primary purpose of the network is to provide ways for members of
the
Ottawa area home learning community to make connections, including
gatherings, email announcements, and a membership list. Experienced
home learners are also available by phone or email to provide guidance
to those new to home learning. An online discussion
group is available to members.
All activities are initiated and organized by network members. Some
of
the activities that have been organized and publicized through the
network
are workshops, swimming lessons, gymnastics, music, craft groups,
picnics,
field trips, pot luck suppers, and drama classes. Throughout the year
there
are informal chat nights where parents can get together to share ideas,
resources
and concerns, as well as socialize and meet new members. Join HBLN.
