Childbirth is a unique experience shared by parents. No two births are alike. This period is an exciting time filled with anticipation and dreams of your baby. But it is normal at this time to have feelings of nervousness and uncertainty. Preparing ahead of time can do much to lessen your worries and concerns.

The Baby & Beyond prenatal class is designed to address issues that are most important and relevant to parents. Classes are provided in a casual yet informative manner. The objective of this prenatal course is to provide parents with knowledge and understanding of the process of labour necessary to make decisions that are appropriate for them.

The material covered over the period of the course includes:

• principles of physiology & biology
• stages & progression of labour
• relaxation methods
• pain management
• medical interventions
• breastfeeding
• care & nurturing of the newborn
• care of the mother after delivery

The course employs detailed & comprehensive explanations of all pertinent issues, hands-on demonstration with practical training aids, and effective audio-visual resources to facilitate an understanding of the topic of labour & childbirth.  Each class also includes a detailed reference guide which isprovided to the parents during the course.

A member of the Association of Woman’s Health, Obstetric & Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN), Isabelle Baribeau holds a Bachelors of Nursing degree from the University of Calgary and a Post Graduate Certificate in Maternal Infant Child Healthcare - Specialization in Perinatal Care from Mount Royal College in Alberta. Isabelle also holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Biochemistry and a Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Ottawa.
